The Legalization of documents is the process of authenticating or certifying legal documents so as to be fully recognized by any Legal System. Authentication by legalization is widely used in international commerce and civil law matters in those jurisdictions which are not signatory of the Hague Convention.

Such certification is comparable to a certification in domestic law and supplements a local certification of the document.
